Higher into the Sanctuary as the valley narrows and the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic.

Alpine forest, stream crossings and towering cliffs lined with waterfalls; lunch at a teahouse en route, then on to Deurali, a small settlement beneath steep glacial slopes.

Cooler temperatures and thinner air make hydration and steady pacing increasingly important.

Tip: Walk slowly and drink regularly — altitude affects everyone differently once above 3,000 m.
